Say “No” to Nausea with these Remedies for Nausea

Nausea is never fun and can be caused by many things, like indigestion, pregnancy, a hangover, and a variety of illnesses including stomach flu and food poisoning.

If you experience nausea accompanied by vomiting that lasts more than two days, or if you suspect that you have food poisoning, see your doctor. Otherwise, these remedies for nausea should help.

1.    Go with the ginger.
Ginger is a fantastic herbal remedy for nausea. Take ginger-root capsules, eat ginger snaps, drink flat ginger ale, or have a cup of ginger tea.

2.    Stick to a bread and water diet.
Non-carbonated drinks can help with the nausea. Avoid ice, as cold drinks can irritate the stomach. Enjoy a cup of tea, or room temperature water or juice. Eat un-buttered toast or crackers.

3.    Go bananas!
Bananas can help to alleviate nausea, so if you enjoy them, feel free to add them to your bread and water diet.

4.    Reach for the pink stuff.
Pepto-Bismol and other over-the-counter stomach medications containing bismuth coat the stomach and may help to ease nausea.

5.    Try a cold compress.
Place a cold washcloth on the front of your neck to relieve feelings of nausea.

6.    Take Bonine or Dramamine.
Bonine and Dramamine are over-the-counter antihistamines used for motion sickness, but they work well for all kinds of nausea.

7.    Eat saltine crackers.
Saltine crackers calm the stomach. If you experience nausea with pregnancy, it’s a good idea to keep the crackers by your bed and eat a few before evening getting up.

8.    Try sugary syrup.
Drink one to two tablespoons of cola syrup or sugar syrup to calm nausea. Or, try an over-the-counter product called Emetrol that contains no caffeine.

9.    Get some rest.
If you have a 24-hour stomach virus, the best cure is rest.

10.    Avoid alcohol and tobacco.
Both can irritate the stomach and contribute to nausea.

11.    Try acupressure.
Apply pressure to the skin between your thumb and index finger. Massage the area for several minutes.

These remedies for nausea should have you feeling better in no time. If not, make an appointment to see your doctor.
