We’re all born with super soft skin, but, unfortunately, as we age, our skin loses its soft, silky smooth feel. Our skin produces less oil as we age, and exposure to the elements of our environment cause further drying. Wouldn’t it be great to have baby soft skin once again? You can improve your skin’s texture and get super soft skin by following these simple tips.
Exfoliation removes the outer, dead skin cells and reveals softer, smoother skin. It’s important to exfoliate at least once a week. There are products for face and body, so use an appropriate product. Products that contain alpha hydroxy or glycolic acid are great for exfoliating.
2. Decrease water temperature.
When taking a bath or shower, turn the water to warm instead of hot. Hot water dries the skin. Also, avoid long soaks in the tub.
3. Use bath oils.
Bath oils are great for moisturizing the skin. Mineral oil is also effective. If showering, use a shower gel that contains moisturizers.
4. Try Vitamin E lotion.
Apply Vitamin E lotion to drier areas of the skin. Taking Vitamin E capsules can also improve skin’s texture.
5. Avoid harsh soaps.
Soap can dry out the skin. Use a soap that includes a moisturizer, and avoid deodorant soaps. Super-fatted soaps, such as Dove or Basis are less drying.
Drinking water is important for your skin. You should drink at least half you body weight in ounces daily. For example, if you weigh 120 pounds, you should be drinking 60 ounces of water each day.
7. Apply baby oil.
After a shower or bath, apply baby oil all over your body. Do this while your skin is slightly moist, as this helps the oil get absorbed into the skin.
8. Apply moisturizing lotion or body cream.
If baby oil is too oily for you, apply a good quality body lotion or body cream after a shower. Those with shea butter are excellent for hydrating the skin, and creams are more effective than lotions.
9. Wrap it up.
For super soft hands and feet, apply petroleum jelly, olive oil or baby oil, and then cover with cotton gloves or soft socks overnight.
10. Use a hot wax spa.
Feet or hands will be super smooth after a paraffin bath treatment. You’ll be amazed at the results after just one application!
11. Wear sunscreen.
Always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher when going outdoors, as the sun’s UV rays damage and dry the skin. For your face, choose a foundation that has a sunscreen.
12. Slather on a sea salt scrub.
A sea salt scrub is great for removing dead skin cells and revealing super soft skin.
13. Take an oatmeal bath.
Oatmeal is soothing to skin. Products, such as Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment have excellent results. You can, of course, make your own oatmeal bath with plain, unflavored oatmeal. Add essential oil, such as lavender, for scent and extra smoothness, if desired.
14. Take a dip in a milk bath.
Add a cup of buttermilk or regular milk to your bath for soft skin.
15. Spread on the mayo.
Unsalted mayonnaise can be used as a night cream.
16. Put on the peaches and cream.
For a peaches and cream complexion, blend a ripe peach with enough heavy cream to make a spreadable, soft cream. Massage into skin daily; rinse with cool water.
17. Apply papaya paste.
Papaya removes dead, flaky skin. Smooth the pulp over your face. Leave for 2 to 3 minutes, then wipe off. Rinse with cool water. Afterwards, apply a moisturizer.
18. Try cantaloupe and mint.
For an effective moisturizer with Vitamins A, B and C, blend smashed, ripe cantaloupe with mint sprigs. You can also use honeydew and mint sprigs.
19. Apply almond oil.
Almond oil is an excellent moisturizer that will leave the skin silky smooth and soft.
20. Apply an avocado mask.
Make a mask of avocado and sour cream or egg yolk. Apply to skin. Rinse thoroughly with cool water after 15 minutes.
21. Soak in bran water.
For soft hands and feet, soak them in bran water. To make the bran water, mix ½ cup of natural bran into a cup of boiling water. Allow to steep for 15 minutes; strain the bran out. Soak hands or feet once the water has cooled.
22. Make honey almond cream.
Melt one ounce of honey and mix in two ounces lanolin. Allow to cool, then stir in one ounce of almond oil. This is a great cream for hands, feet, and elbows.
23. Try a ground almond scrub.
Wrap a handful of ground almonds in a washcloth; wet it, and then rub all over your body to soften skin.
24. Apply carrot cream.
Carrot cream is a great skin softener. There are many products on the market, such as Yes to Carrots and Burt’s Bees Nutritive Cream, or you can process raw carrots in a food processor, apply to skin, and rinse thoroughly after 15 minutes.
25. Use a humidifier.
Dry air dries out the skin. For softer skin, raise the level of humidity in your home.
26. Wear gloves.
Harsh cleaners can dry and damage the skin. Wear gloves when using cleaning products. Also, remember to wear gloves in cold weather to prevent dry, chapped skin.
27. Wear cream foundation.
Cream, oil-based foundations moisturize the skin. However, if you are prone to breakouts, this may not be a good option for you.
Shaving legs removes dry, dead skin cells, leaving the skin soft and smooth.
29. Limit alcohol consumption.
Alcohol causes the skin to lose moisture. This is because when alcohol enters the bloodstream, it lowers the water concentration in the blood. To replace this lost water, the body draws water from the skin cells.
30. Eat healthy.
A diet of fresh fruits and vegetables keep the skin young looking. Fish, such as salmon or tuna, is also great for skin, and fish oil capsules are effective as well.
31. Apply aloe vera.
An aloe based cream is helpful at soothing dry skin and leaves the skin baby soft.
32. Use a milk honey mask.
For soft, velvety skin, massage a mixture of milk and honey into the skin once or twice a week.
The skin is the body’s largest organ and it’s important to take care of it, inside and out. Luckily these home remedies can all be done easily. Your skin will never really be as soft as a baby’s, but following these tips will give you super soft skin.
