How To Build Self Confidence – 3 Tips

In this article, we will look at how to build self confidence. Self confidence is related to self esteem, but it is not exactly the same thing. Understanding the difference is the first step in building either one of them.

Self esteem is a question of our beliefs about ourselves. Self confidence is how we act or perform. So a person could act with a lot of self confidence but still have a low opinion of themselves – low self esteem.

On the other hand, if we know how to build self confidence we can often use it to increase our self esteem. We usually feel better about ourselves if we are feeling confident. So let’s look at how to build self confidence as quickly and easily as possible.

1. Be Your Best Physically

You have probably noticed that people who are attractive and well dressed often have more self confidence. You can do the same. The trick here is not to think about how you compare to others, but just to look the best that you can. You may not have the money for new clothes, but you can keep the clothes that you have clean and pressed.

Know what your best physical characteristics are, and draw attention to them. If people tell you that you have nice eyes, wear colors that bring them out.

Smile often. Smiling will make you more attractive. It also makes you feel good.

Having a good level of fitness for your age and size is a great way to build self confidence. If you are not used to exercise, start slow and consult a doctor if you have any serious conditions. Anything that you can do to increase your fitness levels – without causing injury, of course – is likely to improve your general confidence.

2. Set Goals And Mini-Goals

Knowing how to build self confidence involves our performance as well as our looks. Again, it is not so much a question of how we compare to others, but how we perform in relation to our own aims and expectations.

Think about what you want to do with your life. What would you like to have achieved in your career ten years from now? Are there skills you would like to master or places that you would like to see? Do you have talents that you are not using? If your 18-year-old self or your 90-year-old self could talk to you now, what would be the important things that they would tell you to focus on? These questions should help you identify your major life goals.

When you have your big goals, break them down into small steps. The first step should be something that you can do today or at least this week. Do it, then move to the next step. Set mini-goals that you can reach along the way. There may be many, many steps to your goal, but each mini goal that you reach will increase your confidence.

3. Do Things That You Enjoy

Most of us are more confident when we are doing things that we enjoy. Be aware of how you are more able to rise to a challenge if it is part of an enjoyable process for you, and try to make changes in your life so that you can enjoy more of what you do. This will help you to see how to build self confidence in other aspects of your life too.
