Apple Cider Vinegar Weight Loss

Apple cider vinegar has been used for centuries in many home remedies. One popular use is apple cider vinegar for weight loss.

How Apple Cider Vinegar Helps with Weight Loss

There are many theories as to how apple cider vinegar weight loss occurs. These include:

  1. The nutrients, enzymes and organic acids in apple cider vinegar have been found to act as an appetite suppressant and increase the body’s metabolic rate. Increasing the body’s metabolism results in more calories being burned, thus helping you lose weight.
  2. Apple cider vinegar is the fermented juice from apples. The pectin in apple cider, which is water soluble, helps to fill up the stomach and curb cravings. Consuming apple cider vinegar and water before eating helps you to eat less, because you feel full faster.
  3. Some have found that apple cider vinegar decreases cravings for sweets and fatty foods.
  4. The acetic acid found in apple cider vinegar results in more iron being absorbed, therefore more oxygen is utilized, causing a greater amount of energy to be consumed, and more calories burned.
  5. Apple cider vinegar has been found to slow the rise of blood sugar after meals. Several studies suggest a connection between insulin levels and weight loss.  Consuming apple cider vinegar before or during meals reduces the amount of insulin needed to process the food, which results in quicker weight loss.
  6. Apple cider vinegar has been found to improve digestion.  This means fat remains in the digestive tract for a shorter time and, therefore, less fat is absorbed in the body.
  7. Apple cider vinegar is a good source of potassium. The potassium helps to balance out the amount of sodium in your diet, causing a decrease in fluid retention.
  8. Apple cider vinegar has been found to make people feel better; therefore, they are more active, and lose more weight.
  9. Because apple cider vinegar makes a person feel good, he or she is less likely to eat due to stress or anxiety.
  10. Apple cider vinegar is very effective at breaking down protein, causing an increased amount of growth hormones, which are known to contribute to faster metabolism.

How Much to Take and When

It is recommended to take 1 to 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, 15 to 30 minutes before a meal. You can add a little honey, lemon juice, ginger, or cinnamon powder to improve the taste.  If you prefer, you can add the apple cider vinegar to a glass of water or juice, or a cup of tea.
