Apple cider vinegar can cause heartburn in some people, can irritate the throat and lining of the stomach, and also can damage teeth enamel, due to its high acidic content.  To avoid damage to enamel, try drinking apple cider vinegar through a straw.

Some people may be allergic to apple cider vinegar and experience symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or breathing, hives, a rash, itching, or swelling of the throat. Discontinue use and seek medical help if any of these symptoms occur.

Side effects of apple cider vinegar in pregnant and breast-feeding women are unknown. To be safe, it’s best to avoid the apple cider vinegar diet if you are pregnant or nursing.

If you take medications, check with your doctor before going on apple cider vinegar diet.  Digoxin, insulin and diuretic drugs are known to interact with apple cider vinegar, and other medicines may as well.  It’s best to play it safe and check with your physician.
