Apply a hot oil treatment once a week until the situation is under control. Once the dry scalp problem is under control, you can try applying a hot oil treatment every other week. You can purchase hot oil treatments at the beauty supply, or make one at home with a few simple ingredients:

Homemade Treatment #1
➢ 3 parts olive oil
➢ 1 part honey

Heat honey and olive oil, stirring to mix thoroughly. Allow to cool slightly, until just warm, and apply to hair and scalp. Cover with plastic wrap. Leave on hair 30 minutes, then shampoo and condition hair as usual.

Homemade Treatment #2

➢ 3 T. olive oil
➢ 3 T. jojoba oil

Combine the two oils in a small saucepan and heat to boiling. Allow to cool for 15 to 20 minutes, until cool enough to apply to scalp. Apply the warm oil to scalp, massaging thoroughly. Cover with a shower cap or hot towel. Leave on hair for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Shampoo and condition as usual.

Homemade Treatment #3

➢ ½ teaspoon tea tree oil
➢ ½ teaspoon rose essential oil
➢ 10 teaspoons virgin olive oil

Heat oils in small saucepan. When the mixture has cooled enough to apply, but is still warm, pour over the scalp and massage thoroughly for 5 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as normal.

Homemade Treatment #4

➢ 1 teaspoon peppermint essential oil
➢ 6 teaspoons jojoba oil

Heat ingredients in small saucepan. Let cool enough to apply to scalp. Apply and massage into scalp for two to three minutes. Leave mixture on scalp for 15 minutes, then rinse and shampoo as usual.

3) Vinegar
Rinse with vinegar to remove residue from shampoos and other hair products. Vinegar also balances the pH level of the scalp.

4) Yogurt
Apply plain yogurt to the scalp and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as usual.

5) Neem oil
Apply neem oil to scalp to relieve redness and itching.

6) Banana and honey mixture
Combine ripe mashed banana with honey to make a paste. Apply to scalp. Leave for 30 minutes, then rinse and shampoo and condition as usual.

7) Egg and yogurt
Mix beaten egg with plain yogurt. Apply paste to scalp. After 30 minutes, rinse, shampoo and condition.

8) Vitamin B
Apply Vitamin B to scalp to relieve dryness and itching.

9) Hair, skin and nail vitamins.
