10 Early Signs of Pregnancy

So, You Think You Are Pregnant!  (Good or Bad News?)

So, you think you might be pregnant? Hopefully, if you are reading this article, you have been trying to have a baby, and think you may have succeeded at getting pregnant, which would be very good, maybe even great news! Below is a list of some of the most common early signs of pregnancy.  If you are experiencing a majority of the early signs of pregnancy, have been trying to conceive, and are a healthy woman of childbearing age, you may indeed be pregnant.  But do keep in mind that having most, or even, all, of the early signs of pregnancy, is not a guarantee that you are pregnant, although the chances are very good. Don’t get your hopes up too far though, until you’re pregnancy has been officially confirmed by physician.

Of course, there are the others, who unfortunately, have not been trying to conceive, but, for one reason or another, they fear they might be pregnant, maybe because they have unusual symptoms, or possibly they are just worried (and should be) after a night of wild, unplanned, and totally unprotected sex.  For these individuals, being pregnant would be bad, or extremely bad news! While sometimes, unexpected situations arise, and the heat of the moment clouds our thinking, it’s crucial to remember that a night of unprotected sex (no matter how great it seems at the moment) for those who don’t want, or aren’t yet ready, to have and raise a baby is never, ever worth all the worry and anxiety it can cause for weeks on end.

Then, if you do find out you got pregnant in the heat of the moment, all the fun is over, as you are required (like it or not) to become an adult, and start making good, responsible and well thought out, decisions for your unborn child.  One piece of good news is this: Rest assured, anyone who had a wild night of unprotected sex and is thinking they might be pregnant, (and praying that they aren’t) has learned a lesson that they won’t soon forget. If you got caught up in the throes of passion, and are lucky enough to not be pregnant this time, think of it as a very lucky break, and never forget the worrying and sleepless nights, wondering whether to give up the baby for adoption, to get an abortion or to raise a baby you weren’t prepared for; all that grief for one ‘night’ (actually probably ‘5 to 10 minutes’ of one night)!

The fear of an unwanted pregnancy scares most people so bad that they don’t make the same mistake twice, however tempting it may be. Some people are just lucky enough to get away with it once, but don’t keep pushing your luck. Unplanned pregnancy, especially among those who haven’t finished their high school education, can turn their entire life upside down, as well as that of an innocent, helpless unborn baby.

Early Signs of Pregnancy – What You Should Look Out For

These are some common early signs of pregnancy. While these symptoms are often signs of pregnancy, they can also be symptoms of other conditions. The only way to find out if you are definitely pregnant is by taking a pregnancy test, but these ten symptoms, especially if you have a majority of them, are symptoms that often mean you are pregnant.

1.    Fatigue

Fatigue, for no apparent reason, is often one of the very first signs of pregnancy. Unfortunately, this symptom starts with pregnancy and lasts until your child turns 18, or moves out, whichever comes first! Got ya! Just kidding – well… sort of!

2.    Spotting with possible cramping.

This is one of the earliest signs of pregnancy, which is caused by the fertilized egg attaching to the uterine wall. Spotting, along with mild cramping, can occur from 6 to 12 days after the egg is fertilized. Now, that’s an early sign!

3.    Frequent urination

You suddenly have to go more often, and more urgently. This is because the growing uterus is putting pressure on your bladder, usually beginning around 6 to 9 weeks.

4.    Breasts are painful and swollen

Painful or swollen are often an early symptom of pregnancy. Your bra will suddenly feel very uncomfortable.

5.    Dizziness/faintness

Some women report feeling dizzy or faint, caused by low blood pressure or low blood sugar which commonly occurs in pregnant women, though, many are unaware of it. (See interesting fact!).  So now, you know an early sign of pregnancy that many women do not!

Interesting Fact:
Some women go to the doctor because they are worried they are suddenly feeling dizzy and faint, and are totally shocked to find out they are pregnant.

6.    Smells make you sick!

Smells, such as certain foods you may have liked, or maybe you never noticed smelled, are suddenly very strong smelling and make you feel very nauseas.

7.    Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea and vomiting is common and usually begins in the first few weeks of pregnancy and often lasts up to 12 weeks. Pregnancy nausea is most noticeable first thing in the morning, which explains the term morning sickness. Before even getting out of bed, eating a saltine cracker or two can help tremendously!

8.    You miss your period.

This is a common early sign of pregnancy, but missing one period doesn’t necessarily mean you are pregnant. However, if you are very regular, it is a good indication that you could be pregnant.

9.    Smoking, and the smell of cigarette smoke makes you sick– and you’re a smoker!

You smoke, so therefore, you never even notice the smell of cigarette smoke that all those non-smokers constantly complain about. Then suddenly, you can strongly smell smoke from a cigarette and it makes you almost gag!   Then, when you light up, something you do every day, and have for some time, the taste of your cigarette turns your stomach! If this happen to you, it’s a strong indication you are pregnant. This sign of pregnancy is great, because smoking is dangerous to your health, as well as your unborn baby’s health, and it is normally a very hard habit to break, for some it seems impossible.

Suddenly, you light up and want to throw up, which making quitting a breeze!  And, considering how hard the habit can be to break, and how easily you get hooked, don’t even try one cigarette after the bay is born; before you even know what happens, you’ll be hooked again! So, if the taste of cigarette is making you sick, this is your chance to free yourself of nicotine and tar, breathe better, save your lungs, and save a whole lot of money. This is one of the best symptoms of pregnancy for those who tried to quit smoking many time before and failed!

Unfortunately, some women gag at the smell but can still smoke without getting sick, making it hard to break the dangerous, addictive habit.

10.    Excess gas

A common symptom, that’s not nearly as a desirable symptom as the urge to purge cigarettes, is the ability to pass lots of gas.  This increase in gas is due to the high level of the hormone, progesterone. If you’re lucky, maybe you get a ‘free pass’ on gas and ‘sail’ right past this symptom with a breeze! If not, then skip the beans and broccoli for a couple months, follow a simple flatulence remedy and be sure to stay out of elevators!

In Summary

Remember, every woman is different, and every pregnancy is different. Some women will have every symptom on this list, and then some, some will never have dreaded morning sickness, and other unlucky women will be nauseas the entire pregnancy. Remember, while these are common symptoms of the first few months of pregnancy, you could be pregnant and have no symptoms at all, as this has been proven in news stories around the world, where a woman suddenly has a baby and says she had no clue she was pregnant!! Very strange indeed, but it does happen.

That’s why it’s always a good idea to buy a pregnancy test at the drug store or visit your doctor’s office to know what’s really going on. Once the test confirms you are pregnant, you can plan for what is ahead and be as prepared as you possibly can.
